Thursday Threads 7/11 Link Up

by Julie Hirt

Here is my current WIP that’s on the design wall.  It’s a baby quilt for a friend using 2 Cuzco charm packs.

The HST’s are done but I may do a little rearranging before sewing it all together. I purchased solid white minky for the backing.  Any tips on quilting with it?

I’ve already pulled out the fabrics for my next quilt.  I’m finally going to get started on that Kaleidoscope pattern.

Not sure if I like the black as the base, I may pick up an Oakshott or linen.

  1. I love all Kate Spain’s lines but I haven’t found any Cuzco yet!
    Fabulous!

  2. I love your half square triangles. It always amazes me all the different patterns that can be created with them. I’ve used mink fabric before and have always been frustrated because it stretches and shifts so much. If I ever use it again, I’m going to use fusible interfacing to help stabilize it. I’m not sure if this is the best approach, but it’s the only thing I can think of. Good luck!

  3. I think I would keep the black, it should make everything pop out. But if not i really love all the colors anyway..lol. Good luck.

  4. I love the colors you pulled for your next quilt! Bright and cheery :) And that baby blanket is adorable :)

  5. Congratulations on your third year anniversary! Was distracted earlier and forgot to say that. Love the bright colors of the quilt. You have quite a diverse collection of fabrics. I’m coming back to quilting after a serious illness and my stash and I both are in the process of rebuilding so I am struck by the diversity of fabrics colors/styles of this piece. Again, congratulations!

  6. Thanks Julie for the link up! Love your HST’s, I am wanting to do a kaleidoscope here soon too.

  7. Beautiful fabric choices for the kaleidoscope!

  8. I love the baby quilt, Cuzco has such beautiful colours. I’ve quilted two quilts using Minky, and was surprised how easily it went. I’d heard it would be difficult, but that’s not my experience. Good luck!

  9. That baby quilt is so adorable, can’t wait to see it finished!

  10. that is a very simple yet effective pattern in great colors. wonderful baby quilt!

  11. Your wip is a seriously fabulous scrap-tastic quilt.

  12. I quilted a twin quilt with minky, and had no problems. We spray basted it quite heavily, then I stay stitched around the outside before I quilted it. I didn’t have even one wrinkle. I should add, it was only my third quilt I’ve quilted as I’m a newer quilter. Good luck with it!

  13. Such a cute quilt..you have great taste in fabrics I love all that I can see here :)

  14. I made a quilt so similar to this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jelisabet/8600500870/in/set-72157633117858648

I echo quilted the zig zags using a light thread on the lighter rows and a dark blue on the darker rows and I love how it came out! Just a suggestion. Love yours!
