Winner, WIP & Link Up

by Julie Hirt

First, let’s get to the winner of the Sunday Funday giveaway. The winner of the $25 credit to Zip It Zippers & Mini Charm from Fresh Modern Fabrics is….

Faye Nettles!

Faye, I’ll be sending you an email shortly.  Thanks so much to Zip It Zippers and Fresh Modern Fabric for your generosity!

Here is my latest WIP.  For lack of a better name I’m calling it triangle tipped squares.

kaffeshapes

It’s not quite an elongated hexagon because it’s a square in the center with equilateral triangle tips.  I’ve had a 6″ charm of Kaffe Fassett Classics in green laying around.  After my last EPP project I wanted this one to go a little faster.  Depending on how big this ends up I may make another cushion cover.

Let’s take a look at some of last weeks link ups!

Teeny little hexagons for this pincushion from Fabadashery.

Thursday Threads Linky Party 8/8

by Julie Hirt

I’m participating in Amanda at What the Bobbin’s Fussy Square Block Swap and am so excited about this exchange.

fussyswap 00

I finished up my blocks before I even knew what happened.  The 4″ fussy blocks come together fast and are so fun to make.  Fingers crossed there will be more rounds in the future.

I’ve probably squealed a few dozen times looking at everyone’s blocks in the Flickr group. They are all way.too.cute.

This evening I stitched the last stitch in my Kaleidoscope quilt top. *whew* is about all I can say.  I’m hoping I can get it quilted this weekend, but you know how that goes.

Checkin’ out a couple of last weeks link ups:

BowserQuilt2-3

This Bowser quilt from Susan over at The Bored Zombie.  That’s a ton of squares!

Emily from Sew E.T.’s cute little gnome block.

Maartje at Quilting in Amsterdam made these place mats for a friend. The thread design matches their tableware.

Thursday Threads Link Party 7/25

by Julie Hirt

I’m finally getting started on that kaleidoscope quilt I’ve been wanting to tackle for a while.  So far I’ve just cut out my triangles and I’m playing with layout.

kaleid

With all of that linen, I need to starch everything to death.  Since I don’t want to pay $50 for a gallon of Best Press I did some research and made my own starch. It works!  It’s cheap!  I’m never buying starch again!

There are literally hundreds of variations out there but this is what I did:

DIY Spray Starch

1 tablespoon of Argo cornstarch
24 ounces of water

Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Let it cool and pour it into a spray bottle.
Optional: Add a few drops of lavender essential oil.  I don’t have any so I didn’t.

Some recipes don’t call for boiling but then you have to shake before each spray.   Also, I think it only keeps for a few days but I’ll gladly spend my money on fabric and make this when I need it.

Let’s check out some of last week’s link ups:

DizzyDresdens2

I’m kind of obsessed with these dresden’s from Susan at The Bored Zombie. The fussy cut stripes and chevrons give it such a cool effect!

Super fun Civil War Sampler from Jan at Sew and Sow Farm.  Love.

Last Minute Patchwork Elephant

Adorable little elephant from Stephanie at Quarter Incher.

Thursday Threads Link Party 7/18

by Julie Hirt

Between work, quilting and trying to enjoy some sun, this summer is flying by!  Look at some of these awesome projects from last weeks link up:

Sassy Quilter made this gorgeous hexagon pillow.  After working on my own English Paper Piecing project, I admire it even more.

Love the Amy Butler fabrics in this Simple Pieced quilt – and her quilting lines.

This EPP project from Tales of Ineptitude is going to look incredible!

On my Echino Missouri Pillow post I had a couple of questions about my labels.

Thursday Threads 7/11 Link Up

by Julie Hirt

Here is my current WIP that’s on the design wall.  It’s a baby quilt for a friend using 2 Cuzco charm packs.

WIP

The HST’s are done but I may do a little rearranging before sewing it all together. I purchased solid white minky for the backing.  Any tips on quilting with it?

I’ve already pulled out the fabrics for my next quilt.  I’m finally going to get started on that Kaleidoscope pattern.

fabpull

Not sure if I like the black as the base, I may pick up an Oakshott or linen.
