Baby Gifts

by Julie Hirt

Don’t you just love making baby gifts?  A friend of mine just had a sweet little baby girl named Beatrice Birdie.  Is that not the cutest name ever?

I already knew I was going to send her the Superstar quilt with the crochet edges if she had a girl.  But that didn’t seem like enough so I added a couple of burp cloths.

Then I decided with a middle name like Birdie I just had to make an applique onesie:

THEN I decided she needed a new bib as well.  (I could seriously go crazy making baby things)

This is the smallest patchwork I’ve worked with, they are 1″ squares. Now I really appreciate all those teeny tiny patchwork pieces I see.

The backing of the bib and burp cloth are white cotton chenille. I find it washes up really nicely and actually absorbs quite a bit.

Now I’m finally happy with the gift and it’s in the mail!

What is your favorite baby item to make and give?

Thursday Threads 6/27

by Julie Hirt

Happy SIX TWO SEVEN!

It’s really 6-27, but for some reason we’ve always said 6-2-7.   Paul and I had our first date on 6/27/07 and were married on 6/27/11.

LoveMyPaul

So that’s where the name for my blog came from. I love my Paul!

Since our deck is finally complete I was able to get in a little sewing.  This block is for one my Scrappy Trip Bee mates:

scrappy

She requested pinks and brights, I hope she likes it!  I still have a couple more to work on – I forgot how much I enjoy making this block.  It’s fun to see it all come together.

Here is my version of the Garfunkel block for Block Rock’n.  I’ve already posted it, but here you go:

garfunkel

The Garfunkel and the Caldonia are definitely my favorites so far.  I’ll  be making more of this one for sure.

I’m a little behind on my Lucky Stars blocks.  Oopsy.  Between Block Rock’n and Lucky Stars I have several blocks that I may combine into a quilt.  I really like how the brights pop with the dark fabrics. Maybe some black sashing?

Finally snagged a picture of it!  Sorry I didn’t get this posted with the pattern release.

I think the Garfunkel and the Caldonia are my favorites so far.

If you make one be sure to let me know, I’d love to see it!

Block Rock’n Week 8 – Garfunkel

by Julie Hirt

Are you having a good weekend? I am – our deck is almost done!  Thank goodness.

Now onto the good stuff… here is the Garfunkel block.

garfunkel

There is a variation to this block. You can make the center hexagon solid or like this:

garfunkel1

The template has the optional area marked.  If you choose to make the first variation be sure your fabric covers the entire center piece (both 8 and 8b).

I looove Paul Simon!  As soon as I made this block the name Garfunkel just fit.   My musical tastes are all over the board.  Maybe it’s because I grew up listening to their music that makes me love them so much?

Couple of my favorites.

This one is just Paul Simon… close enough :)

Due to changes within Craftsy, I am moving the patterns to Etsy.
Buy the entire series of 12 blocks for $5 or each block for $1.

Download HERE

Feel free to share within sewing groups if you use this pattern as your Bee block!
It does NOT need to be purchased multiple times. Same with the series purchase.

Hope you enjoy this one.   I’ll be posting a picture of the block I made shortly!

If you make this block I’d love to see it:

Have a blog? Grab a button and share the fun – this is a free series! Code is here.

Thursday Threads 6/20

by Julie Hirt

Welcome to Thursday Threads!

I hate to admit this, but this week has been a sewing bust.  We are working on a deck so my free time has been sucked up “supervising” (ok, watching) and I haven’t touched a needle or thread.  Very disappointing for me.

AND I realized Block Rock’n was last Friday… for some reason I thought it was THIS Friday.  So, I’ll definitely be releasing a new paper piecing template this week.

Found out this evening I’ll be joining in Plum & June’s blog hop!  Can’t wait to visit all the blogs and get some new inspiration.

Since I’ve been such a dud this week I’d really love to see what you have.
