Farmer’s Wife 1930’s – Week 1

by Julie Hirt

As impatient as I felt, this week came pretty quickly.  Here are my first three blocks.

I’ll be adding a couple extra blocks per week (in the future) so I have enough for the King size. I’ll get the extra block  patterns from the first Farmer’s Wife book because I don’t want any duplicates.

The Bonnie is my favorite of the three.  At least for now.

I’ll be in Florida next week so I’m a little nervous about falling behind.  It’s early in the Sew Along so I’m still really excited – hopefully that keeps me in gear!

Here are the fabrics used in the first three blocks.  This post talks about the two Kona solid collections I’m using.  And I finally decided on the background color – Moda Bella Solids in Porcelain.  It’s a nice off white that isn’t too warm.

This is a year long sew along so there’s still plenty of time to join.  The book may be on back-order (demand was pretty crazy for a bit) but you can catch up!  Check out Gnome Angel for details.

  1. Love your all solids version. It’s going to be a fun year watching all the blocks develop, and I think we will find new favourite blocks every week!!

  2. What does the quilt look like when finished? or do you have to buy the book? It’s just that I have so many quilting books I am running out of room, and funds. Thanks for any information. Katie

  3. I’m loving these blocks in solids. Makes me kind of envious I didn’t do a solid version. I find every time I complete a new set of blocks I have a new favourite. Will be interesting to see which becomes my all time favourite when they’re all done. Thanks so much for being a part of it all – I’m so thrilled and excited to have you participating as I just adore your work! <3

  4. Ok, we’re off to a good start, #1. Bonnie. That’s my name. Awesome. Thanks for doing this.
