Sunday Funday Giveaway!

by Julie Hirt

The giveaway weeks flew by.  Are you ready for Week 6?   I think it’s a great one!

week5

Look at this yummy goodness!

aurifilgiveaway

Aurifil has provided a Simply Color by V and Co. cotton thread collection in the large spool size.  This is a ton of thread.  TON.  It’s also in my absolute favorite weight, 50.

Their 50 wt cotton mako thread is perfect for paper, hand or machine piecing as well as machine quilting.  It’s also fantastic because you rarely need to clean any build up from your machine and your bobbin seem to last forever. Due to the fine thread, a lot of it can fit on one tiny bobbin.

This week will have two winners!

Sew Lux has donated an email subscription to their new Club Medallion Border of the Month.

There is still plenty of time to sign up.  Starting in October, on the 10th of every month, you’ll receive a block or border pattern in PDF format via email for 6 months.

I love how it’s one border per month, so you won’t feel overwhelmed.  Sew Lux also has fabric kits available to go with the Border of the Month in 2 colorways:

Both winners will also receive a copy of the Quilt Bee App if they have an Apple device.

  1. These giveaways have been fantastic. Congratulations to who ever wins

  2. OCD – I have to have everything cleaned up, scraps sorted etc. in my sewing room before beginning a new project! I also sew without shoes – the foot pedals respond better!

  3. Thanks for hosting these giveaways!

  4. I suppose I do have some odd habits when it comes to sewing, but like some other habits you’re not aware you have them until someone else points it out.

  5. I like to sew with my sewing machine at an angle.

  6. I can’t have any any stray threads…..must be clipped!

  7. Thanks for the chance! I have several sewing quirks, but the most annoying is that I have to be barefoot when using my machine. I just can’t seem to do anything right when I have on shoes, even flip flops!

  8. Awesome giveaways!! I can’t think of anything quirky that I do … I’m sure there must be a few!! Thanks for the chance!

  9. For hand sewing, I like being curled into the corner of the sofa with plenty of light.

  10. thanks for these amazing giveaways. Odd sewing habits – I like to just work on one project at a time – I get so stressed if I have more than one project on the go!

  11. I sew in my bare feet. For some reason I can feel the foot control better, or at least I think I can. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  12. Thanks for the fab giveaways Julie!

I’m another barefoot sewist! Only wear shoes to sew when I’m at quilt group and that feels very weird!

  13. I usually have several projects on the go. Have just discovered English Paper piecing and always have a few bits by my spot on the sofa. I love aurifil thread. Use it all the time.

  14. Odd: I usually sew with a seam ripper in my mouth.teeth. I just hate fishing around for it when I need it and I almost always feed my stitching through the machine with the seam ripper.

  15. Oh, goodness, those threads are Beautiful!! I really need to try aurifil.

odd sewing habit? hmm, I do try to start and finish projects rather than having lots going at once.

  16. I have to have my sewing area picked up and clean before I can start a new sewing project.

  17. I often use the English paper piecing method when sometimes piecing by machine would do the trick, don’t know why I do this but I do

  18. Awesome giveaway! Odd habit, I use my seem ripper to hold my seams in place instead of pinning when matching seams.

  19. Great colors in the Aurifil thread. I use a toothpick as my stiletto!

  20. I always set a timer when I sew. Habit from keeping track of commissioned quilt time :)

  21. I can’t sew barefoot so no matter how hot it gets in my room I have to have my slippers on. I can’t drive barefoot either (my husband does all the time).

  22. I cannot sew with my machine against the wall. It has to be turned so it is open on the other side. Thanks for the giveaway

  23. I enjoy sewing the most if I’m facing a window…can’t sew if I’m facing a wall.

  24. I sew facing a window too! Other than that can’t htink of an odd habit

  25. Morning is my favorite time to sew! Not sure if that’s odd.

FANTASTIC giveaway. I really need some more colors.

  26. It may seem odd that I use my left foot for the foot control. It’s because I use my right leg for the knee lift and if I try to do everything with my right leg and foot I get everything muddled.

  27. I need to sew facing a window too and I have to have shoes on !! Thanks for the giveaway !!

  28. I can’t sew with shoes on, sometimes I can’t sew with even socks on.

  29. I have to sew barefoot, shoes mess with my speed and my head. I think it is because I’m happiest when I’m barefoot, and quilting so they go together like peas and carrots.

  30. That thread looks soooo yummy! This has been so fun Julie, thanks for a chance at six weeks of goodies:)

  31. I sew barefoot, clean every day so I have a clean space to start again!
    Thanks for the giveaways!

  32. I must sew barefoot, even at sewing class. I must have a clean space to start with even the floors. The tv needs to be on and no sewing in my pjs unless it’s late at night. That’s all I can think of but I bet ill find a few more once I sit down at the machine. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  33. I have to sew barefoot, it just doesn’t work any other way!

  34. Funny about all the barefoot sewist- I have to have shoes on. I hate the feel of the pedal on my feet.

  35. Whenever I’m pinning or unpinning, I have a few pins in my mouth. This doesn’t inhibit my ability to talk.

  36. Like many before me, I cannot sew with any type of shoe on.

  37. Besides sewing without shoes, I also don’t like to face a wall.

  38. I can’t sew with shoes on at all! I have to be barefooted.

  39. Almost like Eleanor Burns, instead of throwing excess fabric on floor while cutting, I clip every end of seam thread while sewing and throw it on the floor! Don’t clean them up until I’m finished sewing the item, either! LOL!

  40. I have to have my old fashioned radio (as my nephew calls it) on while I sew.

  41. I don’t pull all of my fabrics out to audition for the current project. I start with one inspiring print or solid, and pick the others I think might work, one by one, cut and keep again to its corresponding place.

  42. Oh yes! I’m a neat freak! I won’t start a project unless everything is in its place and I won’t leave the sewing room at the end of the day unless everything is cleaned up and in its place!
    I guess that’s a good thing!
Thank you so much for all of your fun giveaways, it’s been a blast!!

  43. Once I start a project, I have to finish it before starting another. UFO’s would drive me crazy.

  44. i have to sew with heels or platform shoes, so i can reach the pedal comfortably.

  45. I sew barefoot!! Can’t stand shoes!!! Thank for all the great giveaways this has been fun!!!

  46. I don’t know if this counts as an odd habit, but lately I’ve been bringing my sewing downstairs from my sewing room, as much as I can, so I can be on the same floor as my dog, who is getting up in years. She’s not allowed upstairs. And I feel bad leaving her for so long while I sew. She misses me enough when I have to leave the house!

  47. I can’t sew with shoes on. Not just at home… If I am at a class at least my “driving shoe” has got to go!

  48. I need to clean before I start projects. I leave a mess behind each time and I can not sew with a mess around. Its a good one but it takes a bit to do it each time :-)

  49. I never sew with my shoes on and I have to clip the starting thread after a few stitches before I go on.
