Ready for a drink! Margaritaville

by Julie Hirt

The WHOLE reason I started this blog….   I have so many craft projects going on at any one time it’s not funny.  I’ve thought about blogging them for years but have been a little lazy.  Flickr is my friend for many reasons, one being it’s a great place for inspiration.  So I decided to bite the bullet, join in, start saving favorites and adding to some of the groups.

I’d like to get most of my recent projects loaded up (off to a good start with some of the jewelry and crochet items) and post what I’m currently working. More of a diary for my own self, I don’t see anyone reading this as I’m not going to share the fact that I started this thing.

So – here is my latest “phase”:  embroidery.  Here is my very first complete project and I plan on giving it to mom next time we’re down.  I was able to use several different stitches and it turned out better than expected.  I used an iron on transfer (a little scared to design my own for the first attempt) and think it turned out better than expected.

I present my tea towel:

Margarita

So there you go.  I’m probably going to give the blog a break for a few days and I do plan on getting some of my other stuff posted in here.

Crochet, crochet!

by Julie Hirt

Here are a few of my crochet projects from last winter. The rug is turning out pretty good, it’s old t-shirts cut into strips and hooked together with a size Q (huge hook). It’s super thick and will probably make a good bath mat or something for under the dog bowls.

The little Amigurumi animals are out of Amigurumi World – the whale is from a free pattern I found online. I need to find it and put a link to it.

I’m working on 2 blankets and have also finished a couple of market bags. I’ll try to put up pics of those soon.

Bronzed

by Julie Hirt

This is one of several beaded bookmarks I’ve made. I realized I like to use them for decoration rather than bookmarks. You can hang them around doorknobs, lamps or hang from a bottle of wine.

Green Envy

by Julie Hirt

These dangle earrings are my favorite style to make. I bought a pair in Venezuela on Margarita Island that were made with blue beads. I stole the style and have made several pairs with different beads. I put one bead on the bottom chain and then 2 beads on every other chain. You can keep going up the chain to make these as long as you’d like. Easy to make and the look totally changes just on the beads you use.

Breakdance

by Julie Hirt

These earrings were so much fun to make and I wear them a lot more than I thought I would. When I bought the beads I had no idea what to do with them and I think they were put to good use.

Amber is the Color of your Energy

by Julie Hirt

These are one of my favorite pairs of earrings that I’ve made. 2 large amber colored beads that have been wire wrapped. This was the first pair that I made the posts with twisted wire as well. It’s really important to file the ends or they will bite your ears.
